Couple of Happenings

We are well into September. Dad has been hanging out at home with the two of us. “Honey do” projects, house projects and biding his time until he starts on a new project this coming Monday is keeping all of us occupied.

A week ago last Saturday when Mom and Dad picked up a pre-owned BMW, Mom bumped into a lady with a Klee Kai named “Bear”. He was only 9 months old and from the description of him by Mom he is a black and white AKK who is probably a Toy sized fellow. He was all the way from Encino and we’re in Burbank so we are actually rather close by. Dad gave her our phone number and web site address with the hope of setting up a play date. So far we haven’t heard anything but one can still hope.

Last Monday brought some excitement. Dad was out in the screened in patio working when he heard both Riley and I barking madly and running around all over the backyard. It seems that Riley had surprised a young squirrel on the ground. Now Riley has as strong a prey drive as I do, so it was off to the races for the three of us. Unfortunately for the squirrel, he was scooped up in Riley’s jaws very quickly. I think that the squirrel thought Riley was going to kill him so Riley was bit slightly on his muzzle. And with that Riley broke his neck in an automatic response to the bite on his muzzle. Poor squirrel… Riley didn’t want to kill him. I didn’t want to kill him either. Both of us just wanted to chase him around. We are both sad that this occurred. Dad had Riley drop the little guy on the ground and was very gentle doing so. You wouldn’t know the squirrel was dead because there wasn’t any damage to his fur. He just looked like he was resting. Dad snapped a photo to prove it. The picture is below. Until later, good bye from Roxie and Riley!

It Never Rains In Southern California!

What Is Happening?

It is hot, sunny and windy. Then in a flash with the sun shining brightly, the sound of rain cuts through my afternoon nap. In a daze, Riley and I venture to the back door of the house to see what Dad is looking at. He has his cell phone out and is recording a freakishly heavy cloud burst. Rain is pouring down!

Now Riley and I just have to venture out to look around. Whoops, it is heavier than both of us thought. Riley decides to take a bathroom break and I concur. Wrong! I get quite wet doing my business. Click on the link below below and see what I mean. Its good Klee Kai have double thick coats to keep us protected. Enjoy the last days of August as September is almost here. Riley and I are. Good bye for now.

We Went To Mom's Work!

Hello again! Roxie here.

We attended the CBS “Bring Your Dog To Work Day” last week. It was an awful lot of fun. There were lots of dogs of all sizes, colors and breeds. We were the only 2 Alaskan Klee Kai but the two of us stood out among the crowd. I bet you wonder how it came to be. Well….

Mom was approached by some of the folks at her work for a photo of us as it was needed for a press release for an upcoming nationwide event that CBS was hosting called “Bring Your Dog To Work Day”. Mom contacted Dad and he sent a photo of Roxie to Mom. I ended up being on a press release along with two other dogs. Exciting! But there was soon more fun to be had. Mom sent us to the groomers to be given a bath and really make us look our best.

On the appointed day, Steven gathered Riley and me up and drove us to Mom’s work. There we posed for a group photo with all the dogs and their owners. It was quite a group. While we were visiting all sorts of questions and comments were posed to Mom and Steven about us. Are we puppies? Are we full grown? What kind of dogs are we? What is our temperament? You get the gist of it. Both of our human pack answered all the questions with good humor and grace.

Dad has added a photo of the event below so you can see everyone. Can you find the two of us? Hint: Right hand side towards the back. Steven is holding Riley, Mom is holding me (Roxie). Click on the picture to see a larger version. Later!
